The tradition of the Gatsios family starts from the village of Epirus, Syrrako. From there, the founder Thanasis Gatsios started and, after years of staying in Constantinople, he founded in 1878 the first distillery in Epirus. He had brought with him selected herbs and seeds, old recipes and secrets of good distillation. He created four proposals of fine drinks with special delicious pleasures, ouzo, brandy, liqueur and tsipouro. With the ouzo "NECTAR GATSIOU" he was distinguished in many exhibitions (Athens 1903, Marseille 1904, Bordeaux 1904, Liege 1905 and Milan 1908).
Today the distillery "GATSIOU" is housed in newly built, state-of-the-art facilities, with modern technical equipment, in the heart of the plain of Arta. With two bottling lines with a capacity of 6000 bottles per hour, the acquisition of a French oak winemaker (Radoux) and investments in equipment and means, Gatsios Distillery Ltd. proves in practice its continuous effort to improve its products, always according to its traditional recipes and methods its founder, Thanassis Gatsiou. The origin, the taste, the unchanged quality are the characteristics of the fine drinks of the family, which are now recognizable in Greece and abroad.
Thomas and Vangelis Gatsios, the fourth generation of the family, continue to produce fine drinks. They always use the same traditional ways, the pure ingredients, the old recipes, the special distillation. This is the legacy and continuation of the family tradition.
