Aegina, the "holy" island of the pistachios - Poupadou

Aegina

Aegina (modern Greek: Αίγινα) is a Greek island in the Saronic Gulf, near Athens. Mount Oros dominates the island but has few ports.

The most famous monument is the temple of Aphaia, which with the temples of Parthenon and Sounion, forms a sacred triangle.

Aegina was the capital of Greece in 1828-1829. The island is the main producer of pistachios from Greece. Since 1994, the pistachio of Aegina is a PDO.
