Halvas is a very well known dessert in Greece. The Greeks prepare it especially for the period of Lent, but not only. There are three types of halva in Greece: the semolina based, the tahini based and the halvas of Farsala.
Ingredients
- 1 cup olive oil
- 2 cups sugar
- 3 cups semolina
- 4 cups water
- cinnamon
- nut (optional)
Utensils
- 1 pot
- 1 wooden spoon
Making
In a preferably non – stick pot, heat the olive oil and add the semolina.
Stir well and without stopping for about 5 minutes on low heat until the halva has a golden color. Add the cinnamon.
Put the water and the sugar. Mix well and be careful because semolina is like lava. Continue cooking on low heat for about 10 – 15 minutes. The halva begins to thicken. Remove the cinnamon.
Your halva is ready. Put the halva in a bowl. Let it cool down.
You can decorate it with nuts.
Enjoy !
