Chalkidiki is a peninsula in northern Greece south of Thessaloniki and surrounded by the Aegean Sea. It took its name from the city Chalcis in Euboea, where its first settlers come from.
The region is divided into 3 arms. The eastern one is mainly occupied by the monastic republic of Mount Athos, a community of Orthodox monasteries enjoying autonomy from the Greek state and the European Union.
The other two arms (Cassandra and Sithonia) are places that many Greeks choose to spend their summer holidays because of the beauty of their beaches (Sani, Palea Fokea, Vourvourou, Livari).
Chalkidiki also has many mines. She is also a great producer of green olives with organic crops, honey, olive oil, wine and critam.
